2001 FFL Ministry Goals

Free For Life Seminar

POTENTIAL IMPACT AND TIMING:
For the year 2001, we are targeting at least 5 Colorado correctional facilities, and potentially 5 other facilities nationwide for the FFL seminar and follow-up process.

If the FFL seminar were to be presented in just two of these Colorado correctional facilities during the next 12 months, the potential impact could be:

  • over 500 inmates introduced to Jesus Christ (based upon average weekly attendance, new inmate attendance, and chaplains' recommendations)

  • 500 inmates learning how and why God created them

  • 500 inmates being equipped to become godly leaders and role models, both while in prison as they disciple other inmates, and then after their release as they disciple their families

  • 500 inmates being given the tools to successfully transition back into society with a clear sense of purpose and direction as they respond to God's revelation for their lives

  • In order to help facilitate the follow-up process, at least 5-10 prison chaplains and an undetermined number of OTM volunteers will need to be trained using the FFL Manual over the next 12 months.

All states including Colorado require volunteers entering a correctional facility to be DOC trained and given security clearance. In that light, it will be the responsibility of OTM's new FFL department to recruit and train volunteers in conjunction with DOC personnel within each state.

    Discipleship & Follow-up
During the next 12 months, the FFL follow up materials will seek to encourage inmates to use the one-year Bible reading plan as they develop a disciplined and obedient life. Using God's word and the FFL manual as the foundation for the follow up, chaplains and volunteers will responsible to help inmates:

    1. Stay focused on and accountable for the material already presented in the FFL seminar

    2. Develop intimacy with God so that they can discover His plan for their lives

    3. Catch a fresh vision for the future as they understand how God made them and why they are here on earth

    4. Begin using the gifts God has given them so they begin living productive lives both while incarcerated and after release

As the inmates learn to use the 5 keys that unlock their true potential, it is highly probable that they will exhibit much greater spiritual maturity. Volunteers and chaplains will observe this new behavior both while in small groups and in the midst of the inmates' daily activities, further demonstrating the effectiveness of the FFL program and allowing for future leaders to surface.

Ideally, if an inmate serving a life sentence displays a high degree of understanding and application of the discipleship materials, it is conceivable this inmate can serve as a future group leader under the supervision of the prison chaplain or FFL volunteer. With the approval of the FFL Director and DOC authorities, this inmate can become a model and mentor for other inmates as well as primary example for the effectiveness of the overall program.

    FFL Institute
One of the first goals of the FFL Institute will be to revise the existing TRM so that it is specific to a prison setting. Graphics can be changed and updated to reflect prison metaphors, and the spiral bound edition will need to meet DOC security requirements.

Initially, 5-10 prison chaplains or church leaders will need to be presented with the MOT seminar and subsequently trained using the FFL Leaders Manual. It is highly likely that churches that have already participated in a Men On Target seminar will be interested in pursuing this type of training. Once a training date has been established, the FFL Director will conduct the one-day session on site.

    Freedom Fighters
As On Target Ministries seeks to underwrite this essential new program, we recognize God may be raising up a core group of people who want to see prisoners and their families transformed for Christ. It is our vision and desire to offer inmates and correctional facilities this unique program without cost.

For a gift of just $100 per prisoner, On Target Ministries can provide an inmate with the opportunity to participate in a FFL seminar, receive the special FFL manual, and take part in a full year of discipleship and follow up while incarcerated.

We also recognize that many businesses and foundations are interested in funding programs like Freedom For Life as they consider how to help stop the cycle of crime in their communities and reduce the tremendous burden placed on taxpayers to build and maintain prison facilities around our nation.

Partners giving a gift of at least $1,000 will become part of our "Freedom Fighters" group. What a significant return on investment! At just $100 per inmate, 10 prisoners will be set free to live a life of purpose and vision as they learn how and why God made them through the FFL program!

    Measurement
Along the way numerous aggressive steps will be taken to document and measure the success of our FFL ministry. Our intent will be to move from the "halo effect" often associated with events, to discovering whether or not our services are making a behavioral impact. We will seek to discover and publish the results of this ministry on a regular basis showing how the inmates who have gone through the FFL program have been impacted.
