What Do We Want?
The Need
We have learned that the most successful events are those that take place within the context of a well thought out strategy for building depth in people. This strategy must evolve within the local church and be driven by the senior pastor. However, most senior pastors are struggling with the day-to-day routines of church and spend much of their time pursuing the latest and greatest church growth programs. Thus, they fail to recognize the underlying problem.
As George Barna states; a majority of senior pastors cite the need for their church to experience numerical growth without harboring a parallel concern for people's spiritual depth.
Our failure to promote and nurture spiritual maturity within the body of Christ is destroying us. We must re-discover the significance of discipleship. Once the senior pastor recognizes the need for spiritual depth and determines to see it developed, only then will events become strategically placed and meaningful over the long haul.
Over the past six years we have developed a list of churches and strategies that seem to work and validate the assumptions we are making. Much of this is taught in the Pastors On Target seminar. We also communicate many of the principles we have learned during advance trips to local churches just prior to our events. This teaching has dramatically influenced the structure and function of several ministries. One senior pastor with twelve years experience testified that it revolutionized his church.
Someone once said that if you keep on doing what you are doing-you'll get more of what you got. The church cannot afford more of what we have. It's time for the church to call a collective "time-out" and enter into a serious discussion regarding what needs to change. At On Target Ministries we do not claim any corner in the marketplace of new ideas. What we do have is extensive experience in building leaders and a keen awareness, born out of years of observation, as to what is working.
Multiplying the ministry
If On Target Ministries is to continue to deliver quality events to assist the local church in building Christ-like people then we must help the church to better understand and utilize its resources. If our main objective is to expand our ministry by scheduling more events, the result will continue to be an increase in activity-with little long-term impact.
On Target Ministries is convinced that the best strategy to expand our ministry lies in assisting the local church. Our heartfelt desire is to see the local church become all that our Lord originally intended.
