Dear friend,

Welcome to spring time, truly one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. Not only is it a time to enjoy the color and splendor of our surroundings, it is a time to rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Christ our Lord has risen indeed…and there is no better reason to celebrate! With this in mind, let's delight in what our risen Lord has accomplished these past few weeks.

To get things started, I headed out to Minnesota, where I was invited to speak several times at the Lake Geneva conference center. First in line was a talk that I delivered for the Minnesota District Assemblies of God Men's Advance. Seven hundred and fifty men and one hundred pastors attended this inspiring event. Upon the conclusion of our first evening together, five hundred men were gathered together at the altar for an intense time of prayer and release that lasted over an hour. I delivered two messages in all to this group and witnessed fifteen to twenty men accept our Lord as their Savior. Hallelujah!

During the Men's Advance, I also led several workshops. The first two dealt with the subject, a man and his work. Several hundred attended. My third workshop offered an exciting opportunity to introduce the "On Target Institute" curriculum to once hundred pastors and leaders. Ten churches committed to purchase this resource and many others expressed an interest in what we are doing with this significant ministry to men. I am so thrilled to see other leaders catching our vision!

On Sunday we ministered at all four services at Cedar View Church. Over fifteen hundred attended and twenty five more precious men and women accepted the Lord. Pastor Jerry Strandquist has become a good friend and we love ministering to this wonderful body.

The very next weekend, I returned to Lake Geneva for a repeat schedule of events. We experienced another powerful altar time at the Men's Advance and another ten to fifteen men accepted Christ. At the following Pastor's workshop, seven to eight additional churches signed up for "On Target Institute". What a tremendous time we had in Minnesota! In all we ministered to over thirteen hundred men, two hundred of whom were Pastors and leaders. Praise the Lord!

Cindy joined me for the next journey which took us to Harvest Assembly in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. There, we conducted a "Couples on Target" event to a group of sixty five men and women. At the end of our time, we rejoiced together as one more life was saved. Glory to God!

The following Sunday I shared a message entitled, "Who Are You?" to a congregation of three hundred at Harvest Assembly. Two others accepted Christ at the close of the service. That same evening, as Cindy and I wrapped up our couple's event, we were excited as over one hundred and fifty people responded to our call to go out and "be" Jesus to those around us. Our God is an awesome God!

The next day, I was asked to speak to eight pastors from the local association on the "Six Elements of an Effective Church." It was a wonderful time of training and fellowship. I ended this busy day by joining First Assembly in Granite City, Illinois for yet another speaking engagement. I shared a teaching on obedience and thoroughly enjoyed my time at this precious men's gathering.

My last assignment was to speak at the Granite City Mayor's Breakfast. I delivered my message entitled, "Who Are You?" and received a very gracious standing ovation from this group of several mayors and over five hundred business leaders. I was told that the Mayor's Breakfast rarely asks the same speaker to attend more than once. It was an honor to have them ask me back two years in row!

Finally, at the end of March, I flew to California to join Inland Hills Church in Ventura for a "Men on Target" seminar. Ninety men attended and another twenty were saved. God revealed Himself in a powerful way at this event. He continues to amaze me with His grace!

Well, you can see why we have reason to celebrate. This past month I spoke thirty five times to over fifteen audiences, and witnessed eighty three loved ones accept Christ! Our Lord is forever faithful. Cindy and I pray that you will be blessed this month and the whole year through with a fresh outpouring of His resurrection life and power! We love you, and our hearts are so encouraged by your partnership and support.

Rejoicing together in His life and love,

Role Models

A man is no greater than his dream,

his ideal, his hope, and his plan.

                                                    Doctor Fern

Whether we are aware of it or not, the character we have developed in our own life is a copy of other people's behavior. We learn how to live life by observing other people. Our own actions are a synthesis of what we have learned by watching the actions of others. If we do not consciously select our role models, we will have little control over who we become. But our character will still be fashioned from our perception of others. If we choose our models carefully, we can be master of our life's potential. Role models can have a tremendous influence on our life. During childhood, our role models are generally our parents or siblings. Later, we develop other interests and may adopt role models that are associated with our desired profession. Role models give us insight into how others have overcome failures and how they persisted in pursuing their goals.

In The Scientific Study of Political Leadership, G. D. Paige examines how many of the most noted leaders of our time modeled themselves after other great leaders. Mao Tse-tung constantly read about Washington, Napoleon, Catherine of Russia, Peter the Great, Gladstone, Lincoln, and others. Woodrow Wilson wrote a biography of Washington. John F. Kennedy wrote of those he admired in Profiles in Courage. Napoleon read and reread Plutarch's Parallel Lives, and Winston Churchill researched the life of his ancestor Malborough.

CONSIDER THIS: Purposefully select your role models. Read biographies of people you admire. This can give you the self-confidence that you can achieve your goals.
