Session Outline:
2Chr. 20:21-22 "After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat
appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the
splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:
"Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever." As they began
to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and
Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated."
There are over three hundred verses in the Bible that talk
about praise. Everywhere we look God is responding in powerful ways to people
who praise Him.
Praise is difficult for most men because it requires that we
put our pride to death. In Hebrews 13:15 we are called to a sacrifice of
praise. The word "sacrifice" comes from a root word in Greek (thuo)
which literally means "to kill or slaughter for a purpose."
2Chr. 5:13 "The trumpeters and singers joined
in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the
LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their
voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures
forever." Then the temple of the LORD was
filled with a cloud."
- Life Implication:
While many Christians talk about praise and even sing praise
songs, few truly understand the profound importance of establishing a personal
habit of praise.
The above verse, taken from Second Chronicles 5, establishes
how God responds to those who faithfully praise Him. His very presence
shows up right where we live.
Under the old covenant God would reside in a physical
place--the tent, tabernacle, temple, ark, etc. In the new covenant God promises
to literally enter into the new temple--our very being.
Psalm 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabits the
praises of Israel. (KJV)
"There is a linkage between praising God and hearing His
voice."
Are you tuned to the Master’s voice?
Discussion Question:
Is it difficult for you to praise God? Is pride or fear
getting in the way?
