Session Outline:
Matt. 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the
Law?" Jesus replied: "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest
commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
"There is a god we want--and there is the God who is...they are not the
same God."
The god I want will always bend to my will--agree with my assessment of the
matter. The God who is will not compromise--He has specific ideas about how we
are to live our lives.
Many people accept Jesus as their Savior--but not their Lord. He needs to be
Lord of our life--not just an insurance policy for a place in heaven.
He wants me to:
Experience the great _____________________ (John 3:16)
Obey the great _________________________ (Matt. 22:37)
Live out the great ______________________ (Matt. 28:18-20)
In order to become a man of significance we must be actively involved
in His plan. God’s ultimate plan for planet earth can be distilled into one
sentence:
"That an invisible God is made visible in the actions of those who
fellowship with His Son Jesus."
Life Implication:
Unless I stop pursuing the god I want and start pursuing the God who is, I
will never experience real success in my life. We must retreat from cultural
Christianity and discover a deeper personal relationship with our Father in
heaven.
James 4:8 Come near to God and He will come near to you.
